Also the memory board that was in the background of the hydrangea photo Mary inquired about. It is on the back wall of the bar (wine fridge is underneath). I cleaned it up a bit, and removed the really old photos. Items included are a post card from Cindy when she went to Paris last year, post card from the Browns to Jean when they went to the Bahamas. A recent photo of most of our group when we went to Rancho Grande for the “boys” May birthday luncheon. Photos of the boys when they were little, and my cousin and her significant in front of the Taj Mahal when they went on a tour of SE Asia. As well as other family photos. I need to “clean” this up every now and then to keep things “fresh”.

Book Review

Not too many books make me cry, but this one did


[photo from www.barnesandnoble.com]. Ann Hood’s Knitting Circle. If you’ve experienced loss of any kind, or you have seen someone close to you experience loss, you can totally relate to this book. Hood writes from personal experience which makes this book so vivid. While I don’t think knitting will solve your problems, although it comes close, she demonstrates how important close relationships are when times are difficult. I really enjoyed this one, and hope to read something else by her again.

Mission Impossible

Go ahead an hum the Mission Impossible theme song while I get started . . . .

The Mission- obtain a Peachtree Road Race number without having to take out a second mortgage.

The lack of a number is my fault as I didn’t pay closer attention to when the application was supposed to be in the AJC. I will not make this mistake again next year. I will begin stalking the Atlanta Track Club website in January.

Now onto MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

I contacted everyone I could think of, work, friends, etc. at the beginning of June to try to find someone who had gotten a number, but wouldn’t be able to use their ticket. I was willing to pay face value, but not the $150 that some numbers were going for on ebay.

Tuesday 7:30 received an email from Mary that there might be a possibility that a co-worker would have a number.

At 10:00- this was not the case- oh well, thanks Mary for trying

12:30- while dining and knitting on the veranda (aka the loading dock) at work, Santa Claus (aka Sarge), inquired if I was successful in getting a race #. I responded negative, but I was not giving up hope. I continued knitting on blanket #3.

17:00- while knitting and riding on the 480 outbound for Acworth Park ‘n’ Ride, said desparate runner/knitter receives a call from Santa saying he knew someone who knew someone who had a number, he thought. He gave me “S” contact information, so I place my call.
17:10- S needs to double check to make sure he can get said wanted #
17:15- S confirms yes he has the number, and it’s a go, now how to obtain said #. Conversation and ideas are exchanged on how best to get this, later that night, as I was riding on a bus, and unless I hijack it and turn it around and go back into town, I’ll have to find an alternative. I think my bus mates would have thrown me overboard like Jack Sparrow had I gone that route, anyway.
17:30-desparate runnerknitter places call to spouse (aka Steve), luckily the Spouse will be in town a bit longer and will coordinate with “S” to get the number
17:35- contact “S” to let him know that the Spouse would be in touch to make the drop off
19:30- received call from the Spouse- Mission Accomplished, road race number has been obtained. Thank you Santa and The Spouse!

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

America's Largest 10K

America’s largest 10K, I’ve also heard it touted as the world’s largest 10K. However you decide. My self and approximately 54,999, other participants battled the asphalt between Lenox Mall and Piedmont Park for bragging rights and a t-shirt [you’ll see at the end]

Start time, about 8:20 am, I got to my section at 6:20, thank goodness for Port-a-John’s!

What is so cool about this race is the number of people who come out to cheer you on. There are bands playing, radio stations broadcasting, total adrenaline rush!

I have tons more photos, but too many to blog. I’ve decided to create a Road Race scrapbook devoted to the last 2 years, don’t think I’ll have the camera with me next year unless I find someone to participate with me, and has the same pace. I’ll include my number and at least a photo of the t-shirt and perhaps some newspaper articles. Andrew wants to run, but he’ll have to start training now. We’ll see.

This one is for Mary

This is from the hydrangea outside the family room window, I think our soil is pretty neutral. I have two small blooms on the two bushes I got as a house warming gift. Having fun experimenting with the "no flash" photog. I know I was going to wait until tomorrow to catch up, but it gave me something to do until the ribs were supposed to come out of the oven. Now I'm off to bed. More postings on Mission Impossible and the World's Largest Road Race, promise lots of photos.

Has the jury reached a verdict . . .

For 9 days I served jury duty, and when it was all over we decided that we had to get together afterwards. The gathering finally took place on this past Saturday. A lot of folks were able to make it and bring their spouses which was cool. We had burgers and dogs, and everyone brought stuff to round out the meal. A couple neighbors, Amy, Brad and Nichole, and Barry and Donna were able to joins us as well as Karen and Ron, and Gary, Ann, Ryan and Amelia. We had a great time and the food was pretty good also.

More guests, it was really too hot, but we enjoyed the back yard any way.

An Afternoon with the Boys

Friday afternoon after getting Andrew from soccer camp we headed to Six Flags, after getting lost for about 10 minutes we finally found I-20, and got there about 2:30. Not my idea of a "great" time, but it was for the boys.

Just look for the lady with the Union Jack bag, the boys had no trouble finding me after they finished their rides. I'm too old to be riding this stuff, I enjoyed the shade when I could find it. Made me really appreciate that the boys are old enought to enjoy the park, but I don't have to participate, just come along as the chauffeur!

I was not bored, no sir, I came equipped for a lot of sitting around and waiting!

Book borrowed from Mary, thanks as always, and blanket #3. Didn't actually work on the blanket as I was too anxious to finish the book which I finally did Sunday night.
